[ He raises his free hand, holding it up, nearly as big as Bambosh's head and crown, but- ]

Gimme a high five. [ He'll make a forward motion with his hand if the higgledy needs it to understand what Tidus wants him to do! ]

[ The red higgledy does indeed deliver that said high five and even twirls in the air before its tiny paw reaches Tidus's palm. Roland just stares on, but when nothing happens after this little display, Tidus unusually quiet...He shifts his eyes and turns to face him a little more. ]

Hey. [ Excuse me. EXCUSE ME!! ] Tidus. [ Please stop ignoring him?? ] What did he say? What does he want to eat? Come on, stop fooling around.

Hm? [ Oh, is grandpa talking? ] Right, right- hey, Bambosh, come for a ride with me.

[ He's already on his arm, so let Tidus raise it, tip his head and say 'On the top side!' to get a companion on his shoulder. Lead the two of them over to the shopping terminal... and poor pappy Rol all alone. 😢

And Tidus can do his potential crimes with Bambosh over here too in this privacy, whispering- 'So, y'think we should tell him what you like, or keep him on his toes? There's none of that stuff onboard.' ]

[ This is an absolute affront to his sensibilities!! Is this Roland's karma for walking away from Tidus all cool-like before? He didn't even mean it to look that way! But now look at them bonding over what Bambosh likes to eat while Roland is lost in the wind...He grimaces and holds back a sigh. Typical. He's not too annoyed at least, but he won't make the trip to follow them either. Instead, he'll cross his legs, one over the other, and throw out his voice.

Roland shakes his head and the look he gave Tidus initially, morphs. He looks serious. ]

Thank you. You didn't have to do that right now. I really was planning on buying his favorite food myself, when we got to platform. [ Surely he'd have twenty, twenty-five points by then. Right? He also turns to Bambosh, more sincere this time even if the little thing is still dancing. ] Sorry I couldn't get anything out of our chats. Maybe I should see if there's a book on higgledy charades...

I can't talk to them, but I understand what they mean. It's a strange feeling, but it's as if I'm running on higgledy instinct. Whereas you and Inigo seem to do both - the connection, and the conversation. Just like Evan. [ He casts a wayward glance at the abandoned ICP terminal. No reason! ] Remember, I'm not really magical. Yuna and Lulu were always way better at magic than me. Sure, it's really hard to get going... but once you get going, it starts making sense in your head!

I'm actually pretty impressed that you've got magic spells which affect time. [ Roland having been put through that quickening spell more than once already. He's not seen magic like that, apart from Nerea turning back time for three hundred years. And even that was at a great cost to her well-being, ancient magic as it was. ] Did Yuna and ah, Lulu? Have magic wands too? [ A beat. Don't hate him for asking this but... ] Did you guys have flying brooms?

[ He's completely serious. Completely. ]

Lulu's the only person I saw use dolls. And they moved with her when she did magic.

[ Which, by Tidus's lazy hand wave, is how they and Lulu moved. ]

They said they're like a conductor, or...focal aid for their magic. Like why I move my hand when I do magic, [ such as the fist he makes now, then waving out his fingers ] or how I use some moves with my sword. But I guess they have something in 'em to make the magic stronger.

Gah. Nevermind. [ Was he destined to never see one???? Roland refuses to believe flying brooms were fake, not after all the magic he's seen in this lifetime! There will be flying brooms! While Roland dreams of his prophesized flying home cleaning tools to ride on, he'll also pay attention to Tidus's animated hands, showing him while explaining how magicks worked in Spira. ] Dolls, huh? That's rather unique. Long poles at least, can still look like magic wands. [ And what's up with that hand wave, too? Lulu was a mage. Just magic. [ See, easy naming there! ] But really great magic. Summoning's a whole different type of magical training, far as I know. I don't know the gist of it, but Yuna and Lulu are both the best at what they do! And Yuna knows some spells too.

[ He can talk about the both of them easy! But, he does make something of a face at Roland with that 'just like you', mouth drawn. ]

I still say, if you had a teacher like Lulu... [ mhrrr. ] I didn't know nothing 'bout magic before I showed up in Spira either! And my magic is nothing compared to either of them. It tires me out! Speeding and slowing stuff's easy for me now 'cause I've done it a bunch, but fire? Thunder? I'm getting better at healing now, but everything's just a lot. I'm way slower than Yuna or Lulu would be. Or any of the real mages on board!

I wonder if we still have active magic classes on the train? I don't mind giving magic a fair chance. [ Though he'll always keep his expectations low. Plus, he seems to thrive in the same area Tidus does - the sword swinging part. With the added spice of his pistol for when things got dicey. ] And a proper magic teacher could help you with your magic stamina, too.

[ And speaking of! ] Hm. There's something from Evermore that could help you, and other spellcasters out, with that. Making sure you don't run out of stamina quickly, I mean. I'll try to get some next supply run.

Sure. I'll look out for her, or seek her out. It's always good to keep sharpening the saw, especially when you've got downtime. [ Never mind that he doesn't think he'll particularly succeed, but Tidus is very supportive and Roland isn't one to refuse when there's potential. Maybe one lesson from a different teacher is all it takes? ]

[ Meanwhile, the spellbook is gratefully borrowed as it crosses over and Roland immediately starts scanning the pages, first couple as an introduction, then...His eyes slowly widen. The finger under his chin settled in nicely for the read. ]

Necromancy? How pleasant. [ Not. Probably the same strain of spells he used, back then... ] 'Cause a stabilized creature to resume dying.' Hm. [ Flips flips, reads. ] Wow. The 'Mending' spell looks useful. And Scrivener’s Chant! [ Roland looks up briefly to meet Tidus's eye. ] This is a really good find, Tidus. Are you planning on trying to learn a couple of these with Sakura and Inigo?

Err... I didn't read the book that closely when I bought it. [ Tidus grimaces at the first spell mentioned, teeth showing. UMM. Don't look at him! He's wondering what else is in there (actually, he's forgotten all the spells in there...), but just puts his hands on his sides at the ponder. ]

You can take it if you want. I think I wanted to stick it in the library, but I got distracted.

[ So if Roland can find a better use for it...?! But, he's got to ask- ]

What's a 'Scrivener’s Chant'?

[ Roland looks up, distracted. ]

Oh, it says here that's a spell which can animate a quill to make a copy of writing on another page. [ He smiles. ] That's mighty useful for duplicates.

[ Flipping two pages this time. He's not even hearing the rest of what Tidus has said, and is now moving on to faster skimming. ]

Hm. Nothing on flying brooms yet...

[ Roland what is with you and flying brooms.......!!! ]

What, and double the paperwork done? [ Hah. ] There was a spell for making light in that too, right? Well, that's a couple missions too late.

[ But not bad for newbie magic learners. ]

[ There was even one for moving debris and locking doors. This has got to be put to use in a future mission! ] Hey, speaking of books...I got the cookbook our head chef from Evermore uses everyday. Knock yourself out on it when you're in the mood to experiment new recipes.

[ Flip flip flip. Roland is great at multitasking! ]

[ Oh, cookbook? ]

What's in it? [ Waait. He remembers Roland with a book when he came to visit him that time... ] Is that the higgledy cookbook? Or some other one?

[ Like a cookbook for humans? Though Tidus wonders why Roland would buy a cookbook for anything else. Did they ever talk about that? ]

[ He shakes his head. On cue, out it comes from the band, offered in one hand while he still reads the other spellbook. It's a thick tome covered in worn-out leather, the words 'Floyd's Specials' embossed against the facade. Inside are recipes ranging from the simple to the complex - from freshly baked bread that's been highlighted as the star of the recipe book, the first thing printed on the page, to more delicate dishes like puddings and pies. ]

It's from the kingdom. There are...four more? Each with different specialties. I'll save up to buy the train all of it so everyone can experiment and try out new things. Though meal kits will need to be shared, of course. I'm willing to help if I can.

[ WOW THERE ARE NO FLYING BROOM SPELLS HERE, never mind he's done scanning the book, closing it with a quiet thump and closed eyes. ]
